Independent schools are a vital part of South Australia’s education landscape. As a non-partisan organisation, our advocacy ensures that the voices of school leaders, staff, communities and families are heard in policy discussions and public debate. We work to protect parental choice, support school diversity, and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the sector.

Our priorities

  • We represent South Australia's Independent schools to government and agencies on essential education issues.
  • We advocate for equitable funding for all students, regardless of school type.
  • We provide evidence-based advice to help shape fair and effective policies and legislation.
  • We support school leaders with updates, analysis, and strategic guidance.
  • We promote the value of school choice to South Australian communities.

Our national connection

We are proud to be part of a strong, collaborative national network of Independent school associations across Australia. Through this connection, we work alongside likeminded organisations to advocate for excellence, choice and diversity in Independent schooling.

As a member of Independent Schools Australia, the national peak body for the Independent school sector, we contribute to and benefit from a collective voice representing Independent schools at a national level. This membership ensures we influence national policy, research and best practice, and champion the unique needs and strengths of our local school communities.

Our national affiliations strengthen our ability to support schools, share knowledge, and advance high-quality education for students and families across Australia.

Join us in strengthening South Australia’s Independent schools

Our advocacy is strengthened by the voices of school leaders, teachers, parents, and communities. Together, we can ensure that Independent schools remain vibrant, diverse and accessible for generations to come.

Your local Member of Parliament (MP) plays a key role in shaping policies that affect funding, resources, staffing, and the wellbeing of students and families.

Our Find Your MP tool helps parents, staff and school leaders quickly identify and connect with their local State and Federal MPs, strengthening the school community’s ability to raise concerns and influence decisions where it matters most.

Understanding school funding

School funding is a complex topic that is often discussed and is frequently misunderstood.

The ‘School Funding Made Simple’ video breaks down the basics and explains how every school in Australia receives some government funding based on student needs and, for non-Government schools, parental income.
